Intensive Program

Overview

The STOTT PILATES® Intensive Program (Level 1) is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement, or who have completed the Functional Anatomy course and meet the Pilates class requirements. The focus is on expanding student’s current knowledge while delivering complete instruction in STOTT PILATES Five Basic Principles and Essential and Intermediate exercises in a fast-paced format.

This option is ideal for those who are unable to devote the amount of time required in our Comprehensive program due to work and/or scheduling issues.

 

Intensive Program choices
  • Intensive Mat-Plus™ (IMP)

  • Intensive Reformer (IR)

  • Intensive Cadillac, Chair & Barrels (ICCB)

 

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to teach the STOTT PILATES method of exercise. Upon passing the exam, they will be recognized as a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor. Only upon the receipt of their certificate will they be entitled to identify themselves as a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor.

 

Our programs provide a balanced and thorough blend of theory, observation and practical experience to help you master the repertoire.

 

 

General course objectives
  • The What, How and Why of the STOTT PILATES Five Basic Principles and how to apply them to all exercises

  • A complete breakdown, including goals, muscular emphasis, movement sequencing of Essential and Intermediate exercises

  • Modifications to address specific alignment issues and individual needs

  • Static Postural Analysis and assessment to aid in program creation

  • Exercise layering related to effective program design

  • Workout composition for personal and group training

  • Effective communication, observational skills, verbal cues and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation

Intensive Mat-Plus™ (IMP)

This course is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement, as well as those who are unable to devote the time required in our Comprehensive Program due to work and/or scheduling issues. Conducted over 2 weeks or 3 weekends. Building on your industry knowledge it teaches you to design and lead the Level 1 Essential and Intermediate STOTT PILATES Matwork repertoire, for personal or group training settings for a range of clients. You will leave with a solid foundation and required skills to develop effective and motivating Pilates Matwork programs.

Intensive Reformer (IR)

This course is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement, as well as those who are unable to devote the time required in our Comprehensive Program due to work and/or scheduling issues. Conducted over 3 weeks or 4 weekends. Building on your industry knowledge it teaches you to design and lead the Level 1 Essential and Intermediate STOTT PILATES Reformer repertoire for personal or group training settings for a range of clients. You will leave with a solid foundation and required skills to develop effective and motivating Pilates Reformer programs. While IR may be taken prior to IMP, we recommend completing IMP first.

Admissions

For many people the decision to become a professional Pilates instructor comes from the need to start a new career, a passion for fitness, or a desire to supplement their income. Before signing up for teacher training, be sure your personal Pilates practice and your foundational knowledge of the work are both solid. Knowing Pilates in your own body will not only give you an appreciation of the method, it will also help you teach it to your clients. Take Pilates classes at your gym or find a studio and watch Pilates DVDs. In other words, do whatever you can to familiarize yourself more fully with the work.

Admission requirements

We’re looking for self-directed and highly motivated people with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the following:

  • Some training in dance, fitness or movement

  • Minimum 30 hours participation in Pilates classes/workouts
